Watercolors by Judith Bodnar

Biography / Artist Statement

I primarily paint landscapes and nature. This work reflects a passion for the outdoor experience that I enjoy so much. Through the use of vivid color, the emotional connection I have with the beauty of Maine’s natural surroundings is evoked. My landscape and nature work has an impressionistic quality, vibrancy and pureness of color. I also create abstract paintings that suggest the surreal and the whimsical. I hope to share an emotional passion with the viewer through use of color and flight of fancy, imparting feelings of optimism, serenity and love of life.

While I am primarily self taught, I have also studied with professional artists Ida Dengrove of New Jersey and the following Maine Artists: Maude Olsen, Katharina Keoughan, Jan Kilburn and Julie Babb. My work in Art has been a life long interest. I seriously started watercolor painting as an emotional outlet for the expression of intense emotion experienced in my professional work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Cancer Care and Hospice Care in New Jersey. Now retired in Maine, I am able to pursue the medium of watercolor full time.
